It is not easy to overcome addictions without the help of God. If you or someone close to you is dealing with addiction, it is recommended to read scriptures. Most people that struggles with addictions are looking for comfort aside addiction treatments, they seek something to help them deal with stress and with situations outside of their control.
What does the bible say about addiction? Though the bible might not point out addiction in normal terms, but it says something related. 1 pet. 5:8 says "Be alert and of sober mind." "Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler"- Prov. 20:1. and many other bible verses talks about addictions. While the bible does warn against addiction, it also offers some hope for those who are dealing with drugs and alcohol. Below are some verses that can help you find comfort in your addictions.
Jer. 17:14 "Heal me, Lord, and save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise." : This verse can be helpful for addicts seeking to turn a new leave, and for those seeking for divine strength to continue working to get cleaned.
2 . John 14:27 "Peace is what I leave with you; it is my own peace that I give to you. I do not give it as the world does. Do not be worried and upset; do not be afraid." : This bible verse is aimed at both the addicts and their loved ones. It can help the loved ones remember that they can find peace through their faith in Christ. Addicts can also meditate on this words when they are feeling scared.
3. James 5:15-16 "And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective."
4. Matthew 11:28-29 "Come unto Me, all who are tired and carry heavy loads, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke and put it on you, and learn from Me because I am gentle and humble in spirit; and you will find rest."
5. 1 Corinthians 10:13 "No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with temptation He will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it."
6. Romans 5:3-5 "More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy spirit who has been given unto us."
7. 2 Corinthians 12:9 "But He said to me "My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness." I will all the more gladly boast of my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest upon me."
I believe that the bible is a wonderful piece of literature that can provide so much help during your recovery process. And I pray that has you run to the Word of God for comfort, you will find peace and strength to go on on this journey to recovery.
